In my young adult years so far I honestly haven't had much of an eye for television. I think that t.v. shows today are, well, trashy! The surge of reality television shows in the early 2000's kind of ruined my likeness of TV, maybe because I grew up and no longer was interested in Nickelodeon, or the Disney Channel. In my freshman year i remember watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer on FX every night, and then I turned onto adult-humor cartoons like the Simpsons and Family Guy, South Park and the like. But as the humor and real talent for television acting died out and TV shows became more and more shallow, I found myself opting for the Internet then sitting in front of the boobtube, unless I was playing video games. But then networks started coming out with their own mini series, shows that were usually geared toward real-life situations with little twists of Hollywood drama, like Showtime's " The Sopranos". It was about around the time when the old Zombie horror cult culture started coming back onto the movie screen. In 2002 I believe it was, the movie "28 days later" made me scream in the movie theatre. Honestly, the thought of a killer virus that turns your pootie-pie into a snarling blood thirsty flesh eating zombie is a little nerve-racking. The possibility of a Zombie type Apocalypse coming and ending humanity if just one of the many ways Hollywood gets us to be afraid. However, none of the Zombie movies I have seen yet seem more real-life then the AMC TV series " The Walking Dead".
Based off a popular comic book series, the show takes place in modern day setting, in Atlanta, Georgia. The main character and hero of the story is Rick Grimes, a police officer. In the first episode of season 1, Rick gets shot during a high speed chase turned shoot-out. Rick goes into a coma( yeah I know sounds real stereotypical but give it a chance, you will not regret it) and wakes up in a hospital that appears to be abandoned and looks like it was a war-zone. He stumbles out to the hallway and sees the corpse of a woman that was half-eaten, and a door chained shut with the words " DON"T OPEN DEAD INSIDE" spray painted across. He makes it outside to see hundreds of dead human corpses. He finds a bicycle and the upper part of a women's dead body is lying nearby. When he moves the bike, he is shocked when the women turns over and starts reaching towards him and snarling, the decaying flesh hanging off her face, revealing the ghastly gums and teeth of a skeleton. He makes his way around a neighborhood and meets another man and his son, who tell him that a virus has killed almost everyone, everything is gone and it was reporting to be a world-wide phenomenon. However, the fever that gets contracted is different, something that no one has ever seen before. After you die, you come back. But it is not you that comes back...
If you have seen the show already then you know Season 3 premieres this October on AMC( sadly it is now unavailable on dish network) but if you haven't watched it and don't want to spoil anything then I wouldn't suggest reading anything further or viewing any of the videos. I don't think anyone reads this anyways so I don't know why I even care. Here is the Official site of The Walking Dead if you would like to find out more for youreself, or just check out the trailer of season 3, I cannot wait to check it out!
